Reading Goals for 2021

Every year I try to set some goals for my reading. More often than not, I unfortunately fail a lot of them, but I still have some that I would like to try to obtain this year. While I do still have some goals for this year, I’m definitely lowering the amount of them and being kinder to myself with the ones I am giving myself.

GOAL #1

My first goal for 2021 is my overall reading goal for the year. In 2020, I decided on 200 book as my goal for the year. I ended up reading 255 books last year and really want to read more than that this year. I ended up deciding that my goal for 2021 would be 250 books.

GOAL #2

My next goal for this year is to make more progress through Jennifer L. Armentrout books. I’ve currently read all of The Dark Elements series, what is currently released for the Harbinger and Blood and Ash series, all of the Covenant series, and all but one of the Titan series.

I know I’ll be reading Grace and Glory and The Crown of Gilded Bones since those are on my most anticipated of 2021 and they’re both already preordered. I have the Lux series out from the library currently and hope to read it very soon!

GOAL #3

Another goal for 2021 is to read more of what I already own. I’m in the middle of cataloging all of the books I physically own and whether I have read them or not. I still have a little ways to go on this project, but do know that I’ve read about half of what I own.

As part of this goal, I decided to participate in the Mount TBR Challenge for 2021. My goal is to read at least 60 books that I already own, but I hope I can read more than that. This goal correlates to the Mt. Kilimanjaro level of the Mount TBR Challenge.

GOAL #4

My second to last goal for this year is the two reading challenges I want to participate in.

The first is the one hosted by TBR and Beyond. This is our third year hosting a yearly reading challenge and I really love ours. We kept the challenges as options and I love that it gives a little more flexibility to the challenge.

The other yearly challenge that I’m committing to is the Beat the Backlist Challenge hosted by Novel Knight. This goes along perfectly with reading books I already own because as of right now everything I own was published in 2020 or prior to that. I decided on the 52 prompt option since I’m hoping to read 60 books that I already own and hope that this helps weed out some of my unread books on my bookshelves.

GOAL #5

My last goal for 2021 is to read a little more outside of my comfort zone. I know that I love contemporary and fantasy, but hold myself back from many other genres. My goal is to read at least one or two books outside of my comfort zone each month.
