Borrow My Heart | Author Interview | Book Tour

I’m so excited to be a part of the book tour for Borrow My Heart that is hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours. I was really excited to also be able to interview the author for this book!

INTERVIEW

How would you describe Borrow My Heart in one sentence?

Girl sees boy, girl saves boy, girl and boy save dog. 😉

Can you introduce us to the main character(s) of Borrow My Heart?

WREN: The MC, has rules for dating. If she follows these rules, she won’t put her heart at risk. She guards her heart carefully after having it broken by her own mother. But she does have a soft spot for animals. They give unconditionally and without judgment or expectations. That’s why she works at an animal shelter and why she loves every animal in her care.

ASHER: The love interest. He comes from a big, loud, happy family. His heart is open wide. He wants to be everyone’s friend and shares anything and everything with anyone and everyone. He’s soft and lovable and fun, a real golden retriever. But maybe he has a few secrets as well.

BEAN: The dog. He is both grumpy and loyal. Both quirky and rebellious. He is all around the very goodest boy.

Do you know from the beginning how your books will end or do you let your characters decide their journey?

Some books yes, some books no. Most of the time I know the climax. The part near the end of the book where everything falls apart. This part is very clear to me from word one and the whole book is working toward that moment. Then I let the characters tell me how everything comes back together again.

Do you have a favorite scene, moment, or quote from the book?

I love the opening scene where Wren overhears Asher talking to a friend about a girl he’s supposed to meet at the café who he has only interacted with online before. Wren is sure he is being catfished and when his friend starts making fun of how gullible Asher is, Wren breaks all her rules to help him.

What is something readers will find in Borrow My Heart that they may not realize based on the
synopsis?

Like in most of my books, there is a strong family element. Real life families are complicated and I try to bring all those complexities to my books. This book in particular there is a messy relationship with Wren’s mother that has really shaped her into who she is. She has to try to untangle who she is from the walls she put up to protect herself.

What’s something you hope readers will take away from Borrow My Heart?

Since Wren works at a shelter, I hope readers will think about adopting an animal next time they are in the market for a pet. Our shelters are full of lovable fur babies longing for a family.

What are three books you would recommend if someone enjoyed Borrow My Heart?

ABOUT THE BOOK

TITLE: Borrow My Heart
AUTHOR: Kasie West
GENRE: Young Adult Contemporary
RELEASE DATE: June 13, 2023

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | IndieBound

Synopsis:

When a girl overhears a guy getting verbally destroyed by his friends for being catfished, she jumps in to save the day—and pretends to be his online crush. A young adult romance from the critically acclaimed author of Places We’ve Never Been.

Wren is used to being called a control freak. She doesn’t care; sticking to the list of rules she created for herself helps her navigate life. But when a cute guy named Asher walks through the door of her neighborhood coffee shop, the rulebook goes out the window.

Asher is cute, charming . . . and being catfished by his online crush. So Wren makes an uncharacteristically impulsive decision—she pretends to be the girl he’s waiting for to save him from embarrassment. Suddenly she’s fake-dating a boy she knows nothing about. And it’s . . . amazing.

It’s not long before Asher has her breaking even more of her own rules. But will he forgive her when he finds out she’s not who she says she is? Wren’s not so sure. . . . After all, rules exist for a reason.
