Hunterland | Author Interview | Book Tour

I’m so excited to be a part of the book tour for Hunterland that is hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours. I was really excited to also be able to interview the author for this book!

INTERVIEW

How would you describe Hunterland in one sentence?

Unlikely group of high schoolers in a small town and a secret online society team up to hunt a monster killing their teachers.

Can you introduce us to the main character(s) of Hunterland?

Liam Hunter is the resident bad boy of the secret online society called Hunterland. He’s eighteen years old, maybe a little too old for high school but still playing the role so he can fight monsters in plan sight when having to be camouflaged in an educational setting. I see him as a rough/tough Robbie Amell, tall, dark brown hair, blue eyes, but always brooding. Liam lost his mother to a hunt gone bad years ago and now wears the weight of the world on his shoulder trying to saving everyone else to make up for not saving his mom. But he’s unprepared for Falkville Falls and the Davis family.

Olivia Davis is the girl next door whose mother died after childbirth of her sister Pepper. Olivia is unaware, almost innocent like. She has brown hair, greenish hazel eyes, slender frame. I see her looking like Danielle Campbell from the show The Originals. She believes her role is to be a mother figure to her sister but when teachers end up dying in her town, she has to rely on the confident cocky new guy who ripped her realty to shreds with the promise of monsters and mayhem.

Together this unlikely couple learns how to rely on each other even at the cost of their own hearts.

Do you know from the beginning how your books will end or do you let your characters decide their journey?

Since this is a series, I had a little bit more of an understanding how I wanted to book to flow. Not only was there a murder mystery to solve but this sets up the series and the overarching plot of how Hunterland started in the first place.

Do you have a favorite scene, moment, or quote from the book?

What is something readers will find in Hunterland that they may not realize based on the
synopsis?

I don’t want to give too much away but the sisters, Olivia and Pepper Davis, have abilities. They always belonged in the Hunterland world, more than the Hunter family could ever imagine and their abilities are just the beginning.

What’s something you hope readers will take away from Hunterland?

I hope that readers will find their favorite movie or Tv show from the past in Hunterland. Between Scooby Doo, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, The Originals, and The Vampire Dairies, I think Hunterland satisfies those fan favorite shows that are now off the air. I know I’ve missed Buffy the Vampire Slayer ever since it ended. Writing this was like time traveling, going back to my favorite shows and concepts and getting to relive them through an updated lens. I hope I bring back that warmth, maybe even nostalgia from that time in other reader’s lives.

What are three books you would recommend if someone enjoyed Hunterland?

  • Zodiac Academy
  • The Vampire Diaries
  • Teenwolf

Synopsis:

Liam Hunter has warded off hungry vampires, slayed monstrous beasts, and put agonized spirits to rest since he was old enough to hold a stake. When trouble comes through the Hunterland message board, the Hunter family hits the road. Nurses are dying at high schools across Wisconsin in a string of fishy so-called suicides, and the trail leads to Falkville Falls High, where Liam clashes with Olivia Davis, whose maddening family seems inexplicably embroiled in this haunting mess. Liam deals with monsters, not people. Things just got more complicated. Can Liam find out who or what is responsible before the next murder, or will this vicious death cycle have no end?

With only their father to care for them, Olivia Davis has always mothered her little sister, Pepper. But when the Hunter family opens her eyes to the hidden underworld of real monsters lurking in the dark, she realizes she can’t protect Pepper from this newest threat alone. She’ll have to join forces with the wayward boy who irritates her the most to take down a monster that’s too close to home. That’s if her own family doesn’t stand in her way.
