I’m so excited to be a part of the book tour for The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich that is hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours. I was really excited to also be able to interview the author for this book!
INTERVIEW
How would you describe The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich in one sentence?
It’s like Pride and Prejudice but with more cheese, sparkles, sandwiches, chaos & disaster lesbians.
Can you introduce us to the main character(s) of The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich?
Why, yes I can!
“Count” Camembert is an airhead fashion nerd who does not want to marry a man!! She decides to live as one instead, otherwise she would go broke, but she’s not very good at keeping a low profile… And then she falls in love with the Princess of all people!!
Princess Brie is a headstrong activist with a lot of passion & a fiery temper! She can’t help but fall for the Camembert’s silliness & enthusiasm, and decides to do something scandalous about it!!
Gouda is Brie’s dog and she is a very good girl. She can smell fear. And she can cause it, too.
Do you know from the beginning how your books will end or do you let your characters decide their journey?
It really depends. I knew how this story would end from the beginning, but I still let my characters decide their journey there. I try to know where I’m going with a story as I’m writing it, but I’m not super opposed to changing the planned end if I think of something better that fits.
Do you have a favorite scene, moment, or quote from the book?
Everything Zola says while sipping tea is gold.
What is something readers will find in The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich that they may not realize based on the
synopsis?
People playing video games and eating cold leftover pizza for breakfast.
What’s something you hope readers will take away from The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich?
Warm fuzzy feelings and a little bit of courage to face scary things in the name of your own happiness!! Hopefully they also have some good laughs about it!!
What are three books you would recommend if someone enjoyed The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich?
This is kind of hard since I am too busy and tired to read much… And I rarely read things in the same vein as what I write… BUT!
-The Prince and The Dressmaker is an easy one, similar title and similar Fashionable Gender Non-Conforming Royalty vibes.
-I highly recommend the manga series Our Dreams at Dusk! It’s for a slightly older demographic than Grilled Cheese, but it’s such an excellent read for anyone working through confusing gender and sexuality feelings. I read it while working on this book & going through a bit of a crisis, and it made me bawl like a baby!!
-And lastly — It’s not a book YET, but me & my wife’s webcomic Blades of Furry, of course!!
