I’m so excited to be a part of the book tour for Woods of Silver and Light by Victoria McCombs that is hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours. I was really excited to also be able to interview the author for this book!

INTERVIEW

How would you describe Woods of Silver and Light in just one sentence?

This is a story of what happens when Robin Hood goes too far.

Did anything initially inspire Woods of Silver and Light?

Anika, my main character, was the sister of the previous book’s main character, and she was so fun to write that I knew I wanted to give her a book. So I just thought of what trouble she could get into and came up with these dangerous woods that she’s drawn to.

Do you have a favorite scene or quote from the book?

I enjoyed the scene where Anika meets the sorceress in the Woods for the first time. There is a quote from there that goes: Her pale skin glowed like the moon and her ruby lips drew back into a thin smile. “Welcome. I’ve been waiting for you.”

Do you know from the beginning how your books will end or do you let your characters decide their journey?

I am a big fan of plotting out books! I wrote this one two years ago when I first learned how to plot, so all I knew for Woods was that one of the main characters would be dying and that there would be a build up to the final battle with the sorceress from the Woods. I left the specifics up to my characters.

Was there anything that was cut from the book that you were sad to see go?

I originally had two more of the characters killed at the end for their crimes (everyone in the book has a few crimes under their belts.) But at some advisement, I banished them instead.

Do you see yourself writing more in this series? If so, who would you love to base a story on?

I’ve already written the next two books! It’s a four book companion series, each with a few overlaying characters. The next is titled The Winter Charlatan, and there is a sneak peek at it in the back of Woods. It takes place in the frozen, northern mountains where magic runs more freely and a girl is fighting to take back the crown she has a claim to.

This isn’t the tale of Robin Hood you remember.
