I’m so excited to be a part of the book tour for Horror Hotel that is hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours. I was really excited to also be able to interview the author for this book!
INTERVIEW
Welcome! Thank you for allowing me to interview you! Can you start off by introducing yourself?
Hi! Thank YOU for having us. We’re Victoria & Faith, authors of HORROR HOTEL, besties and longtime writing partners. We met in an online writing workshop as budding authors, and bonded over our love of screenwriting and big, bold dreams for our stories. We love visiting haunted locations together, and writing in hotels that might also be home to ghostly activity.
How would you describe Horror Hotel in one sentence?
We love how our publisher describes it as “Blair Witch for the TikTok generation.” It captures the vibe we were going for so perfectly.
Can you introduce us to the main character(s) of Horror Hotel?
The Ghost Gang in an ensemble cast of teens who hunt ghosts on their growing YouTube channel.
At the heart of the Ghost Gang, is resident psychic medium, Chrissy Looper who has the terrifying ability to see dead people, and can also empath the emotions of her living friends and family. The Ghost Gang fans love her goth vibes, tragic backstory, and stubborn streak.
She’s best friends with aspiring media mogul Chase Montgomery, even though they constantly butt heads. He’s the ambition behind the gang’s success, and all he wants in life is to get to 1M subscribers and (secretly) to go on a date with Chrissy.
Emmaline Thomas is the techy brainiac of the group with a penchant for all the ghostly gadgets and apps. She’s skeptical and irritable and always the smartest person in the room. She’s sure the Ghost Gang’s success will look favorable on her college essays.
Last, and sparkliest—Kiki Lawrence hates ghosts, is scared of her own shadow, but loves the Gang enough to brave all the haunted locales they take her to. She has the ability to charm her way into or out of almost any sticky situation, and she’s been able to channel her TikTok beauty guru success to help drive viewers to the Ghost Gang’s channel.
Do you know from the beginning how your books will end or do you let your characters decide their journey?
Because Horror Hotel was sold on proposal we did have to figure out the plot ahead of time, which was a new experience for us. Proposals usually include a synopsis that details all the major parts of the story, and gives away the ending, plus sample pages of the beginning of the story. Even though we had to ultimately know how it would end, we still got to play around with the scenes and were surprised by how our characters developed.
Do you have a favorite scene, moment, or quote from the book?
We don’t want to spoil anything, but we are both particularly proud of how the climax plays out. We hope readers will find it as satisfying to read, as we found it to write.
What are some books you would recommend if someone enjoyed Horror Hotel?
Small Town Monsters by Diana Rodriguez Wallach, which is about a creepy cult in a small town.
A Night to Die For by Lisa Schroeder, which is a boy finds a girl’s body in the ditch on prom night and becomes the primary suspect in her murder —which comes out March 1st from Underlined!
What’s next for you? Anything you can share?
We’re always working on something spooky or romantic that we know readers will love, but for now we have to keep the next project secret! We hope we can share more soon!
